Grade / High School

Tishomingo County has a unified school district consisting of two high schools, two middle schools, three elementary schools, and one career and technical school. All schools are rated high performing ("A" rated or "B" rated), with the district rated as an "B" in 2024.

The average ACT score of the district is 19.0. Students in grades 7 through 12 have 1:1 technology devices for individualized learning, and high school students have the opportunity to take college classes through Northeast Mississippi Community College as well as Advanced Placement courses.

The graduation rate is 85%, and the district has over 95% of its students passing the Literacy Promotion test in third grade. Each campus offers extracurricular activities through athletics, clubs, and the fine arts. The Boys & Girls Club offers after school tutoring and educational programs and activities.

Higher Education

The state universities cooperate via the Mississippi Technology Extension Partnership, the industrial assessment centers, and the Mississippi Technology Institute to transfer cutting-edge technology to business and industry. Mississippi also offers specialized Centers for Advanced Manufacturing Technology and the Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems. Mississippi universities posses one-fourth of all the supercomputers in the USA and the state ranks third nationally in computing capabilities.

Job training for the community is offered by Northeast Mississippi Community College which is located 30 minutes driving time in Booneville. With over 3,000 students, NEMCC is the largest provider of job training to manufacturers in the state. Colleges attended by local citizens include the following (enrollment):

North Mississippi Medical Center-Iuka is a not-for-profit, award winning, 48-bed general acute care hospital affiliated with one of the nation's leading health care organizations. NMMC-Iuka offers the following services: 24-hour emergency services, full laboratory, clinical pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation and respiratory therapy.

Nursing staff members are trained and maintain competency on a wide array of patient populations including infants, pediatrics, adolescent, adults and geriatrics. The hospital also has 10 certified swing beds for patients who need extended care based on availability and resources.

Inpatient care includes 24 hour direct patient care with multi-disciplinary services including: nursing, radiology, laboratory, ultrasonography, nuclear medicine, CT, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, food and nutritional services, and social services. Spiritual assistance is also available 24 hours a day through a volunteer chaplain program staffed by volunteer local pastors. The Outpatient Specialty Clinic hosts physicians available for consultation in orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

The NMMC-Iuka's Sleep Disorders Center provides cost effective and high quality sleep diagnosis and therapeutic plans.

NMMC-Iuka Wellness Center features cardiovascular and weight equipment, as well as fitness classes and health lectures. Prepared Childbirth Classes and a Diabetes Support Group are also available at NMMC-Iuka along with other community outreach programs.

There are hundreds of homes built on the hills overlooking Pickwick Lake which has 490 miles of shoreline. Another lake has 133 miles of shoreline. There are also several residential resorts and developments on or near the water.

Grand Harbor has a ten-story condominium with owner and rental units overlooking the pristine waters of Pickwick Lake. The residential development is complimented with a full-service marina and other recreations facilities.

Shiloh Falls and Pickwick Landing State Park both offer championship golf courses. Shiloh Falls offers both homes and lots for sale surrounding the golf course. Union Harbor Resort is undergoing a $3 million expansion with 50 new home sites. A number of other residential developments are also available, several built around private lakes and marinas. Aqua Yacht Harbor has condos for rent and are building a brand new development across Highway 25 here in Tishomingo County.

Home construction costs are substantially below the national average. A typical three bedroom ranch style home can be purchased or built in the $85,000 to $160,000 range, depending on location and amenities. Taxes are among the lowest in the nation. Real estate taxes on the typical three bedroom ranch style residence average $330 per year.

The State of Mississippi does not tax qualified retirement income, and retiree real estate with a market value up to $70,000 is exempt from local property taxes. Kiplinger ranks Mississippi # 2 in the nation for retirees, reporting that "Mississippi offers a sweet income-tax deal for retirees".
